Have been dabbling with cooking since elementary school, when I participated in 4-H baking competitions. Along the way, there were, fires in the oven, spills and smudges in my mother's cookbooks, and the infamous turtle cookie at Christmas which made many, many, MANY more than the three dozen the recipe predicted .... :)
Fast forward to a more recent history. Somewhere in the back of my mind I have become somewhat obsessed with collecting recipes and cookbooks. My teenage son has pointed out to me that I possess more recipes than I could ever live to cook! Still, the fun is in the quest!
Tried my hand at catering for the first time this year, as an amateur -- educational experience, to say the least. It is, however, what I'd love to do when I get to retire.

My mother, especially. Both of my Grandmothers, as well. My father's mother for her green beans, and her German Chocolate cake, which will forever remain etched in my memory.
My maternal grandmother for her homemade cat's head biscuits, cooked in a cast iron skillet on top of the stove. I am unable to duplicate them -- they were cooked with a grandma's love :)
Mom was able, somehow to make dinner out of whatever was on hand. I considered that (and still do!) to be Kitchen Magic!!
