Acerca de mí
I enjoy cooking for my family and love trying new recipes as long as it does not cost an arm and a leg to fix.

- 31 de Marzo de 2012Hello, Kathy! My sister called from Texas this morning, as my 91 year old mother went into a surgery, and told me mom was singing the West Virginia Fight Song. W VA is very close to my heart, having spent so many summers of my childhood and youth there with grandparents, my uncle and aunt. So you can take the woman out of the mountains, but you cannot take the Mountaineer out of the woman, to paraphrase. I am delighted to be the first to welcome you to C-E-S. I've been a member for just over a year and have found that I get far more out of it than I put in. So many talented and sharing chefs and cooks - most of whom love to communicate. So don't be shy. Try recipes and leave reviews and comments and expect the same in return. Don't hesitate to ask questions or for suggestions. Join lots of groups and try new dishes. Step out of your comfort zone and push yoursellf in the kitchen. I hope I will hear from you frequently and I look forward to all your postings - or at least your comments! Best regards, Amos2 replies
- 31 de Marzo de 2012That is so sweet. How is she doing? I have lived in WV all my life, and I love the mountains. The roads are a different story. When I am a passenger, I usually do not hold much of a conversation because I enjoy looking at the beautiful colors of all seasons. I fixed beef stew for my parents and it was so bland. I spiced it up by using BQ sauce, salt and pepper. Of course, I let my parents spice their own bowl to their taste. When I got home my daughter who is 18 told me that the milk was outdated and did not taste good. Low income can cause this problem so I needed to use evaporated milk to make regular milk for cereal, etc. This was the main reason I joined this site. I think I might stay connected, I have learned so much just in the last few hours, than reading a book about it.1 reply
- 31 de Marzo de 2012My mom's doing just fine! Thanks so much for askng, Kathy. Her people are from Odell up north, and Glasgow and Cedar Grove on the Kanawha. Hawk's Nest and Black Water Falls are two of my favorites places to visit / roam. Hey, next time you make a stew, add either a couple of sprigs of fresh thyme or a tsp of dried thyme and a tsp of mustard powder. Adding about 1/3 C of A-1 would help, too. You also might think of buying dried milk from an internet source. I use The Ready Store for dehydrated products, then just add water. NO SPOILAGE. I'd recommend getting 4-#10 cans to make it worth while and economical. Check into it, if you are interested. Read the 'specs' on the description to learn how many gallons a can will provide. Do the math: no waste = $$ saved. So glad you are enjoying the site. Connect to any of the chefs on the Home page - Claudia, Frank, Kathy, Foodessa are all super nice folks. See you later.
