Ingredientes
- 1 cup of hard wheat flour
- 1 cup of pasty flour
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup of white sugar
- 1 tsp of salt
- 2 large eggs
- The zest of 1 orange
- 2 tsp of baking powder
- 1 cup of non fat milk
- 4 Tbs of olive oil
- 1/4 tsp of nutmeg
- 2 cups of powdered sugar
- Now I couldn't leave Heather's recipe well enough alone, so to her recipe I added a couple of extras to underscore the Indian spice profile:
- 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp of ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp of ground cardamom

%20some%20I%20only%20know%20through%20the%20Virtual%20World%20or%20the%20Social%20Network,%20but%20every%20one%20of%20them%20has%20taught%20me%20something.%20I%20love%20it%20when%20I%20can%20pick%20up%20on%20a%20new%20way%20of%20doing%20something%20I've%20never%20done%20before.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETake%20donuts%20for%20instance.%20After%20my%20high%20school%20work%20experience%20at%20The%20Donut%20Hole,%20donuts,%20no%20matter%20how%20cute%20and%20tempting%20they%20may%20look,%20held%20no%20charms%20for%20me.%20Too%20many%20traumatic%20experiences%20perhaps.%20What%20do%20I%20mean%20exactly?%20Well%20this%20device,%20which%20even%20though%20it%20looks%20like%20it's%20straight%20out%20of%20a%20David%20Cronenburg%20film,%20is%20merely%20a%20simple%20pastry%20and%20donut%20filler.%20I%20still%20have%20nightmares.%20Don't%20ask.%20And%20then%20there's%20all%20that%20boiling%20deep%20fat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlus%20there%20are%20other%20embarrassing%20traumatic%20donut%20memories.%20When%20we%20lived%20in%20Malibu%20for%20a%20while%20I%20formed%20the%20dirty%20little%20habit%20of%20running%20across%20Pacific%20Coast%20Highway%20or%20The%20Road%20To%20Hell%20%20as%20I%20used%20to%20call%20it,%20and%20nipping%20into%20Ralphs%20Market%20every%20morning%20for%20a%20couple%20of%20donuts%20and%20coffee.%20Don't%20%20even%20ask%20about%20the%20place%20that%20used%20to%20be%20next%20to%20Malibu%20Lumber%20and%20sold%20the%20brie%20and%20turkey%20sandwiches%20on%20homemade%20farm%20bread.%20Nipping%20across%20the%20highway%20from%20the%20beach%20soon%20turned%20into%20galumphing%20across%20the%20highway,%20and%20so%20the%20donuts%20had%20to%20go.%20Let%20it%20be%20said%20that%20making%20donuts%20was%20the%20last%20thing%20I%20was%20thinking%20about.%20And%20then%20I%20met%20Heather%20aka%20Farmgirl%20Gourmet.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20met%20Heather%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago%20when%20we%20were%20both%20featured%20in%20the%20New%20York%20Times%20%22Fine%20Dining%20Column%22%20What%20We're%20Reading.%20I%20immediately%20loved%20her%20site.%20Local,%20homegrown%20and%20sustainable,%20there's%20something%20for%20everyone,%20including%20as%20it%20turns%20out,%20donuts.%20The%20thing%20that%20won%20me%20over%20about%20Heather's%20donuts%20was%20that%20they%20were%20baked%20cake%20donuts.%20No%20deep%20fat%20fryer,%20no%20weirdly%20erotic%20jelly%20loading%20device.%20Another%20plus%20was%20that%20they%20were%20made%20of%20something%20called%20hard%20wheat,%20which%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20a%20whole%20grain,%20winter%20wheat%20and%20the%20recipe%20called%20for%20olive%20oil%20and%20non%20fat%20milk.%20No%20full%20fat%20milk,%20no%20butter.%20I%20was%20sold.%20I%20had%20to%20try%20those%20donuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECORRECTION:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20I've%20got%20to%20stop%20here.%20Heather%20just%20informed%20me%20that%20it%20wasn't%20her%20in%20the%20article!%20I%20got%20%20my%20Farm%20girls%20mixed%20up.%20The%20site%20featured%20with%20me%20in%20the%20article%20is%20girl%20farm%20kitchen%20..I%20don't%20know%20her,%20but%20her%20site%20is%20great%20too.%20I%20blame%20it%20all%20on%20those%20donuts.%20Those%20baked%20donuts!%20Just%20on%20the%20basis%20of%20those%20donuts,%20Heather%20should%20be%20in%20the%20New%20York%20Times.%20I%20have%20to%20admit%20that%20when%20I%20see%20baked%20donuts,%20I%20want%20to%20know%20the%20person%20who's%20made%20them.%20It%20was%20wishful%20thinking.%20Anyway,%20I%20do%20know%20Heather%20now,%20I%20can't%20remember%20how%20but%20I%20do%20know%20it%20had%20to%20do%20with%20seeing%20those%20donuts,%20and%20she%20inspired%20me.%20And%20now%20back%20to%20our%20story%20in%20progress...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20immediately%20set%20off%20to%20find%20a%20donut%20pan.%20I%20was%20faced%20with%20a%20couple%20of%20choices.%20One%20that%20baked%20regular%20sized%20donuts%20and%20one%20that%20baked%20mini%20donuts.%20I%20chose%20the%20mini%20donut%20plan,%20less%20guilt%20inducing%20I%20thought.%20Of%20course%20there's%20always%20the%20possibility%20(as%20Alan%20pointed%20out)%20that%20one%20will%20eat%20more%20of%20the%20minis%20because%20they're%20well...%20mini.%20But,%20there's%20risk%20in%20everything.%20I%20chose%20the%20mini%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20decided%20to%20kick%20off%20these%20donuts%20with%20what%20we%20consider%20the%20first%20%22game%22%20in%20what%20is%20to%20us%20as%20screenwriters,%20our%20%22bowl%20season%22%20the%20Golden%20Globes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe'd%20invited%20friends%20over%20to%20watch%20the%20awards%20and%20since%20I%20was%20serving%20easy%20finger%20food,%20I%20thought%20mini%20powdered%20sugar%20donuts%20with%20chai%20shots%20for%20dessert%20would%20be%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBaked%20Donuts%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20What%20You%20Need:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20What%20To%20Do:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpray%20a%20donut%20baking%20pan%20with%20non%20stick%20spray%20and%20set%20it%20aside%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20sized%20bowl%20add%20in%20the%20flours,%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20nutmeg,%20salt,%20and%20orange%20zest.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20it%20all%20%20together%20with%20a%20whisk%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20in%20the%20eggs,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMilk,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOlive%20oil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20it%20together%20until%20it's%20all%20combined.%20Pour%20it%20into%20the%20greased%20donut%20pan.%20Bake%20the%20donuts%20for%20about%2012%20minutes%20or%20until%20they're%20not%20tacky%20on%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20here's%20a%20note.%20Don't%20overfill%20these%20little%20suckers.%20I%20know%20it's%20hard%20to%20get%20just%20a%20bit%20in%20a%20mini%20pan%20(it%20was%20for%20me)%20but%20if%20you%20overfill,%20you%20don't%20get%20donuts.%20You%20get%20an%20unholy%20cross%20between%20a%20donut%20hole%20and%20a%20mini%20bundt%20cake.%20You%20don't%20want%20to%20do%20this,%20trust%20me.%20So,%20be%20careful%20and%20fill%20the%20small%20cups%20only%20half%20way.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you're%20careful%20you'll%20get%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMini%20donuts!%20Wheee!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDrop%20the%20mini%20donuts%20into%20a%20bag%20containing%20the%202%20cups%20of%20powdered%20sugar.%20Shake%20it%20up%20baby.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20them%20on%20a%20wire%20rack%20to%20cool%20a%20bit.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20another%20note%20about%20these%20donuts.%20They're%20best%20served%20warm%20right%20off%20the%20rack.%20If%20you%20let%20them%20hang%20around%20too%20long%20(not%20that%20they%20will)%20the%20sugar%20will%20sort%20of%20melt%20into%20the%20donuts%20and%20you'll%20lose%20all%20that%20great%20powdery%20stuff%20and%20will%20have%20sort%20of%20mini%20glazed%20donuts.%20No%20bad,%20but%20not%20that%20pretty.%20Belive%20it.%20These%20donuts%20are%20great%20served%20with%20chai,%20coffee%20or%20tea.%20You%20don't%20necessarily%20have%20to%20have%20George%20Clooney%20as%20accompaniment...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20it%20doesn't%20hurt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EComing%20up%20next,%20I%20take%20bao%20to%20India%20and%20find%20that%20dim%20sum%20can%20be%20the%20perfect%20party%20food.%20Follow%20along%20on%20Twitter%20@kathygori%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
