- 1 egg
- 1/4 t. ground ginger
- 1/2 t. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/2 t. baking powder
- 1/2 t. baking soda
- 1/4 t. salt
- 3 c. powdered sugar
- 2 T. milk (more may be needed)

%20%20I%20had%20my%20first%20taste%20of%20their%20pizza%E2%80%94a%20simple%20slice%20with%20bell%20peppers%20and%20peperoncini.%20%20%20It%20was%20delicious.%20%20(Cold%20beer,%20too!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20stated%20earlier,%20%20I%20always%20have%20a%20destination%20dining%20experience%20in%20mind%20when%20we%20travel.%20%20%20We%20had%20already%20visited%20Michael%20Smith%E2%80%99s%20so%20I%20was%20dying%20to%20go%20to%20Extra%20Virgin,%20%20his%20tapas%20bar%20next%20door.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20around%202:00%20p.m.%20on%20a%20Friday%20when%20we%20arrived%20for%20a%20late%20lunch.%20%20%20It%20was%20not%20crowded%20at%20all%20and%20even%20suffered%20from%20a%20lack%20of%20staff.%20%20%20%20We%20wanted%20drinks%20and%20a%20light%20lunch.%20%20%20%20OK%E2%80%94let%20me%20just%20get%20this%20out%20there%E2%80%94my%20husband%20is%20a%20beer%20snob.%20%20He%20likes%20his%20beer%20on%20tap,%20in%20an%20extra%20cold%20glass,%20and%20local%20when%20possible.%20%20We%20noticed%20nothing%20was%20on%20tap%20at%20the%20bar%20so%20we%20asked%20our%20frou-frou%20waiter%20what%20beers%20they%20had.%20%20He%20promptly%20replied,%20%E2%80%9CWhat%20don%E2%80%99t%20we%20have?%E2%80%9D%20%20Could%20you%20be%20more%20vague,%20please?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20more%20vague%20responses,%20my%20husband%20asked%20for%20an%20IPA.%20%20%E2%80%9CThe%20closest%20we%20have%20to%20an%20IPA%20is%20a%20PBR.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9COK,%20bring%20me%20one%20of%20those.%E2%80%9D%20%20What?%20%20%20Did%20he%20really%20realize%20he%20was%20ordering%20a%20Pabst%20Blue%20Ribbon?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWho%20knew%20that%20Pabst%20has%20become%20a%20hipster%20trend?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20was%20not%20impressed.%20%20But,%20I%20am%20pleased%20to%20report%20that%20the%20food%20was%20MUCH%20better.%20%20We%20had%20Smith%E2%80%99s%20version%20of%20Chickpea%20Frites.%20%20(They%20were%20tasty,%20but%20I%20think%20I%20liked%20Izard%E2%80%98s%20Chickpea%20Fritters%20better.)%20%20We%20also%20had%20the%20hummus%20and%20Spanish%20meatballs.%20%20All%20were%20good.%20%20(But,%20unfortunately,%20%20I,%20%20%20for%20some%20weird%20reason,%20%20%20had%20the%20old%20country%20song%20%20%E2%80%9CRed%20Neck,%20White%20Socks,%20and%20Blue%20Ribbon%20Beer%E2%80%9D%20%20running%20through%20my%20head%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20day!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEven%20though%20service%20was%20a%20bit%20spotty%20(and%20I%20think%20our%20waiter%20and%20the%20bartender%20were%20not%20seeing%20eye%20to%20eye),%20I%20would%20return.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20we%20left%20Extra%20Virgin,%20we%20went%20to%20Pryde%E2%80%99s%20of%20Old%20Westport,%20a%20%E2%80%9Chardware%20store%20for%20cooks.%E2%80%9D%20%20I%20LOVE%20this%20place.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheck%20out%20their%20whisk%20chandolier.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20were%20greeted%20upstairs%20with%20a%20cup%20of%20coffee%20or%20tea%20and%20were%20left%20to%20browse%20and%20browse.%20%20Downstairs%20is%20a%20wonderful%20bakery,%20The%20Upper%20Crust.%20%20I%20had%20heard%20that%20we%20must%20try%20the%20cookies%20so%20we%20ordered%20an%20old%20beloved%20standby,%20a%20Snickerdoodle,%20and%20a%20decadent%20looking%20frosted%20banana%20cookie.%20%20OMG!%20%20These%20were%20the%20best.%20%20%20We%20tried%20a%20bite%20from%20each%20and%20then%20headed%20out%20to%20explore%20the%20rest%20of%20Wesport,%20an%20eclectic%20and%20funky%20area.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOther%20places%20I%20would%20recommend%20were:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMcCoy%E2%80%99s%20Public%20House,%20a%20cute%20microbrewery%20with%20a%20nice%20beer%20garden.%20%20We%20were%20fortunate%20enough%20to%20witness%20some%20interesting%20people%20watching%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBeer%20Kitchen%20had%20lots%20on%20tap.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWestport%20Cafe%20&%20Bar%20(WC&B),%20a%20true%20gem.%20%20I%20wish%20we%20had%20had%20the%20inclination%20for%20dinner%20but%20we%20were%20stuffed%20at%20this%20point.%20%20We%20did%20have%20the%20most%20sublime%20pea%20puree%20raviolis!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20are%20already%20trying%20to%20think%20of%20another%20excuse%20to%20head%20north%20to%20KC%20soon!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20immediately%20came%20home%20and%20tried%20to%20replicate%20those%20wonderful%20banana%20cookies%20though.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20is%20what%20I%20came%20up%20with.%20%20%20%20The%20Upper%20Crust%E2%80%99s%20were%20a%20bit%20less%20cakey,%20but%20I%20think%20I%20got%20the%20frosting%20down!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBanana%20Cookies%20with%20Browned%20Butter%20Frosting%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20oven%20to%20350%C2%B0F.%20Combine%203/4%20cup%20butter%20and%203/4%20cup%20brown%20sugar%20in%20large%20bowl.%20Beat%20at%20medium%20speed,%20scraping%20bowl%20often,%20until%20creamy.%20Add%20bananas,%20egg,%20ginger,%20and%20vanilla;%20continue%20beating%20until%20well%20mixed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20separate%20mixing%20bowl,%20combine%20dry%20ingredients%20and%20mix%20with%20a%20hand%20whisk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReduce%20speed%20to%20low;%20add%20dry%20ingredients.%20Beat%20until%20well%20mixed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDrop%20cookies%20onto%20a%20lined%20baking%20sheet%20using%20an%20ice%20cream%20scoop%20(about%201%20%C2%BD%20tablespoons%20full.)%20by%20rounded%20teaspoonfuls,%202%20inches%20apart.%20%20Bake%20for%208-10%20minutes%20or%20until%20edges%20are%20lightly%20browned.%20%20Cool%20completely%20on%20wire%20racks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20frosting:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/3%20c.butter%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3%20c.%20powdered%20sugar%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20t.%20%20vanilla%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20T.%20%20milk%20(more%20may%20be%20needed)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%201-quart%20saucepan,%20heat%20%20butter%20over%20medium%20heat,%20stirring%20constantly,%20just%20until%20light%20brown.%20In%20mixing%20bowl%20of%20a%20stand%20mixer,%20place%20powdered%20sugar,%201%20teaspoon%20vanilla%20and%202%20tablespoons%20milk.%20%20Mix%20with%20the%20whisk%20attachment%20to%20just%20incorporate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20browned%20butter%20over%20powdered%20sugar%20mixture.%20Beat%20on%20low%20speed%20about%201%20minute%20or%20until%20smooth.%20If%20too%20thick,%20add%20more%20milk,%20%C2%BD%20T.%20at%20a%20time%20until%20it%20becomes%20spreadable.%20Generously%20frost%20cooled%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYummy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20%20made%2021%20cookies%20with%20this%20recipe.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
