  • 3 pound Great Northern navy beans
  • Water
  • 3 lg. onions, sliced
  • 3 (10 1/2 ounce.) cans tomato soup
  • 3 c. brown sugar
  • 2 pound salt pork
  • 1 sm. ham (about 2 to 3 lb.)
  • Salt (optional)

Direcciones

  1. Soak beans in large roasting pan with plenty of water overnight. Drain. Add in water to cover and boil gently till the skin cracks on a bean when you blow on it. Remove part of the water and reserve for later if needed. Add in onions, soup and part of brown sugar. Bake about 3 hrs and taste. Add in more sugar, if you like, and salt, if needed.
  2. Wash salt pork, remove rind and cut into small pcs the meat and fat. Cut ham into small pcs after removing the rind and add in to the beans. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 5 to 6 hrs. Add in more liquid, if necessary. Serves 16.
