%20in%20my%20fridge%20as%20part%20of%20my%201%20week%20of%20vegetables%20supply).%20But%20I%20wanted%20to%20do%20something%20else%20other%20than%20stir-fry.%20Chayote%20(Chokos)%20Egg-Drop%20Soup%20came%20to%20my%20mind%20as%20a%20result%20of%20the%20weird%20quantity%20of%20egg%20left%20in%20the%20fridge.%20ONE.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20my%20first%20time%20making%20Chayote%20(Chokos)%20Egg-Drop%20Soup.%20However,%20I%20was%20over%20greedy%20-%20added%20too%20much%20vegetables%20(chayote,%20cabbage)%20in%20my%20soup%20and%20ended%20up%20in%20a%20stew-like%20soup.%20It%20does%20not%20have%20a%20lot%20of%20liquid%20(due%20to%20relatively%20more%20solid%20ingredients)%20to%20be%20a%20soupy%20soup%20AND%20does%20not%20have%20classic-stew-like%20(thick)%20consistency.%20ANYWAY,%20I%20could%20have%20jolly%20well%20added%20more%20stock%20or%20water%20to%20correct%20the%20mistake%20but%20that%20bowl%20was%20already%20quite%20a%20huge%20portion%20of%20food%20for%20two%20servings%20and%20if%20I%20have%20added%20more%20water%20or%20stock:%20it%20would%20have%20become%20a%204-serving%20soup%20(too%20much%20liquid!)%20and%20the%20taste%20might%20have%20been%20diluted%20(double%20whammy!).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENaturally,%20the%20soup%20was%20a%20half-flop%20due%20to%20the%20absence%20of%20egg-drop%20consistency%20which%20is%20supposed%20to%20be%20smooth%20and%20silky-like-texture%20of%20egg-drop.%20Fortunately,%20the%20other%20half-success%20was:%20I%20managed%20to%20create%20something%20quite%20delicious...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eout%20of%202%20tablespoons%20of%20ground%20beef%20(Note1:%20I%20said%20%222%20tablespoons%22%20because%20it%20is%20really%20small%20quantity%20of%20beef%20I%20am%20using%20-%20more%20for%20flavor%20rather%20than%20substance,%20this%20same%20trick%20I%20have%20been%20using%20quite%20recently%20and%20frequently),%20that%20%22guilty%22%20egg%20and%20the%20vegetables,%20of%20course.%20The%20usual%20aromatics%20I%20used:%20garlic%20and%20ginger.%20But%20it%20is%20no%20more%20soup.%20No%20more%20egg-drop.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChayote%20(Chokos)%20Egg-Drop%20Stew-like%20Soup%20%22Stoup%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%202%20cloves%20garlic,%20finely%20minced;%202cm-knob%20ginger,%20finely%20minced;%202%20tablespoons%20of%20ground%20beef;%20drizzle%20of%20Chinese%20cooking%20wine;%204%20fresh%20shitake%20mushrooms%20caps,%20thinly%20sliced;%201%20chayote,%20thinly%20sliced;%202%20handfuls%20of%20shredded%20cabbage;%20salt%20and%20white%20pepper%20to%20taste;%201%20egg,%20lightly%20whisked;%20drizzle%20of%20sesame%20oil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%20Heat%20some%20oil%20in%20a%20pot,%20add%20in%20ginger%20and%20garlic%20and%20fry%20till%20fragrant.%20Add%20the%20beef,%20breaking%20beef%20into%20small%20bits%20while%20frying%20in%20the%20pot.%20Drizzle%20of%20cooking%20wine%20around%20the%20edge%20of%20the%20pot%20to%20sizzle%20the%20beef%20bits.%20Add%20in%20mushrooms%20and%20fry%20with%20the%20beef.%20When%20cooking%20wine%20almost%20evaporates,%20add%20chayote%20and%20cabbage%20and%20mix%20well%20with%20the%20beef%20and%20mushrooms.%20Add%201%20to%201-1/2%20cups%20water,%20salt%20and%20white%20pepper%20to%20taste,%20cover%20the%20pot%20and%20allow%20simmer%20at%20low%20heat%20(about%2010%20to%2015%20minutes)%20till%20chayote%20and%20cabbage%20turn%20tender.%20Turn%20off%20heat,%20and%20gently%20stir%20in%20the%20egg%20mixture%20(Note2:%20The%20egg%20will%20be%20cooked%20eventually%20by%20the%20heat%20of%20the%20mixture).%20Drizzle%202-3%20drops%20of%20sesame%20oil%20before%20serving%20for%20aroma.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20first%20Chayote%20(Chokos)%20Egg-Drop%20Soup%20goes%20to%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECabbage%20and%20chayote%20both%20have%20natural%20sweetness.%20With%20the%20savory%20beef%20and%20those%20usual%20aromatics%20make%20the%20dish...very%20tasty.%20Blessings%20in%20a%20disguise%20but%20a%20mistake%20is%20still%20a%20mistake%20thanks%20to%20that%20%22guilty%20egg%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETag:%20chayote,%20egg%20drop,%20soup,%20egg%20drop%20soup%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
