.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20you%20just%20love%20stereotypes?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20stereotypes,%20Philadelphia%20has%20always%20been%20stereotyped%20as%20the%20place%20to%20go%20for%20cheesesteak.%20This%20is%20something%20I%E2%80%99d%20think%20of%20as%20a%20pretty%20freakin%E2%80%99%20awesome%20stereotype,%20sorta%20like%20saying%20that%20Southerners%20give%20the%20best%20hugs%20(it%E2%80%99s%20true),%20that%20Italians%20make%20the%20best%20pasta%20(also%20true,%20in%20my%20experience),%20and%20that%20San%20Francisco%20has%20a%20lot%20of%20hipsters%20(generally%20awesome,%20but%20sometimes%20annoying).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20almost%2010%20years%20ago%20that%20we%20went%20on%20this%20road%20trip,%20so%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20for%20the%20life%20of%20me%20remember%20where%20we%20went%20to%20eat,%20but%20I%20know%20they%20insisted%20on%20going%20to%20one%20specific%20place%20for%20a%20Philly%20cheesesteak.%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20it%20was%20in%20Philadelphia,%20since%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20we%20went%20to%20Philadelphia%20on%20that%20trip.%20I%20remember%20Barry%20really%20hyping%20this%20place%20up,%20and%20getting%20more%20and%20more%20excited%20about%20it%20the%20closer%20we%20got.%20And%20even%20though%20it%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20in%20Philly%20proper%20(I%20think),%20I%20remember%20being%20pretty%20blown%20away%20by%20the%20caliber%20of%20meat-filled%20sandwich%20goodness.%20I%20remember%20a%20lot%20of%20gooey%20cheese%20and%20if%20my%20memory%20isn%E2%80%99t%20failing%20me%20and%20instead%20plugging%20in%20nonexistent%20happenings,%20I%20think%20Chris%E2%80%99%20parents%20even%20came%20across%20someone%20they%20knew%20in%20the%20restaurant,%20which%20to%20me,%20further%20solidifies%20the%20awesomeness%20of%20a%20place.%20So%20forgive%20me%20if%20I%20made%20that%20up,%20but%20I%20really%20don%E2%80%99t%20think%20I%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20not%20sayin%E2%80%99%20this%20recipe%20I%E2%80%99m%20sharing%20is%20the%20same%20caliber%20of%20awesomeness%20as%20a%20Philly%20cheesesteak.%20First,%20it%20needs%20three%20times%20as%20much%20cheese,%20then%20twice%20as%20much%20steak,%20and%20less%20veggies.%20I%20think%20I%E2%80%99ve%20even%20heard%20that%20some%20Philly%20cheesesteak%20places%20use%20Cheese%20Whiz%20now,%20and%20that%E2%80%99s%20definitely%20not%20going%20on%20with%20this%20sandwich.%20But%20at%20the%20end%20of%20the%20day,%20when%20you%20live%20on%20the%20other%20side%20of%20the%20country%20amidst,%20let%E2%80%99s%20face%20it,%20restaurants%20with%20a%20greater%20focus%20on%20avocado%20and%20turkey%20sandwiches%20(which%20are%20nothing%20to%20ignore%20out%20here),%20it%20gets%20the%20job%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20for%20sure,%20that%E2%80%99s%20a%20memory%20I%20know%20is%20accurate.%20Probably%20because%20it%20only%20happened%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago,%20but%20still,%20it%E2%80%99s%20true.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPhilly%20Cheesesteak%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Cooking%20Light,%20March%202012;%20makes%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etime%20commitment:%2030%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Einstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20beef%20in%20freezer%20for%2015%20minutes.%20Cut%20beef%20across%20the%20grain%20into%20thin%20slices.%20Sprinkle%20beef%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20Remove%20brown%20gills%20from%20the%20undersides%20of%20mushroom%20caps%20using%20a%20spoon;%20discard%20gills.%20Remove%20stems%20and%20discard.%20Thinly%20slice%20mushroom%20caps%20and%20cut%20slices%20in%20half%20crosswise.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20large%20nonstick%20skillet%20over%20medium-high%20heat.%20Add%201%20teaspoon%20oil%20to%20pan;%20swirl%20to%20coat.%20Add%20beef%20to%20pan;%20saut%C3%A9%202%20minutes%20or%20until%20beef%20loses%20its%20pink%20color,%20stirring%20constantly.%20Remove%20beef%20from%20pan.%20Add%20remaining%201%20teaspoon%20oil%20to%20pan.%20Add%20onion%20and%20saut%C3%A9%203%20minutes.%20Add%20mushrooms,%20bell%20pepper,%20and%20garlic%20and%20saut%C3%A9%206%20minutes.%20Return%20beef%20to%20pan%20and%20saut%C3%A9%201%20minute%20or%20until%20thoroughly%20heated%20and%20vegetables%20are%20tender.%20Remove%20from%20heat.%20Stir%20in%20Worcestershire%20and%20soy%20sauce%20and%20keep%20warm.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20flour%20in%20a%20small%20saucepan,%20and%20gradually%20add%20milk,%20stirring%20with%20a%20whisk%20until%20blended.%20Bring%20to%20a%20simmer%20over%20medium%20heat;%20cook%201%20minute%20or%20until%20slightly%20thickened.%20Remove%20from%20heat.%20Add%20cheeses%20and%20mustard,%20stirring%20until%20smooth.%20Keep%20warm%20(mixture%20will%20thicken%20as%20it%20cools).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHollow%20out%20top%20and%20bottom%20halves%20of%20bread,%20leaving%20a%201/2-inch-thick%20shell;%20reserve%20torn%20bread%20for%20another%20use.%20Divide%20the%20beef%20mixture%20evenly%20among%20bottom%20halves%20of%20hoagies.%20Drizzle%20sauce%20evenly%20over%20beef%20mixture;%20replace%20top%20halves.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERandom%20Posts%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETags:%20cheesesteak%20sandwich,%20Cooking%20Light,%20
