%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20May's%20Reveal%20Day%20for%20Secret%20Recipe%20Club%20and%20we've%20once%20again%20attempted%20to%20stray%20out%20of%20our%20comfort%20zone%20and%20bake%20something.%20A%20cake,%20no%20less.%20Neither%20of%20us%20can%20remember%20ever%20baking%20a%20cake%20together,%20and%20most%20of%20our%20combined%20experiences%20with%20making%20cakes%20have%20involved%20Betty%20Crocker.%20That%20said,%20now%20that%20things%20are%20starting%20to%20grow%20in%20the%20garden%20again,%20we've%20also%20been%20wanting%20to%20cook%20with%20something%20homegrown.%20Unfortunately,%20since%20it's%20still%20early%20in%20the%20growing%20season%20here,%20the%20only%20thing%20we%20currently%20have%20growing%20is%20rhubarb.%20And%20what%20are%20the%20odds%20that%20our%20assigned%20blog%20would%20have%20a%20recipe%20with%20rhubarb%20as%20the%20ingredient?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20too%20bad,%20as%20it%20turns%20out.%20In%20fact,%20Taryn,%20the%20author%20of%20Sweetly%20Serendipity%20had%20not%20one,%20not%20two,%20but%20three%20recipes%20with%20rhubarb%20in%20them.%20The%20dilemma%20was%20which%20one%20to%20choose.%20Rhubarb%20Buttermilk%20Muffins%20sounded%20pretty%20good,%20but%20Taryn%20herself%20admitted%20that%20%22they%20weren't%20the%20best.%22%20Been%20there!%20So%20it%20was%20between%20Lemon%20Rhubarb%20Buttermilk%20Cake%20and%20Upside-Down%20%22Strawbarb%22%20Cake.%20For%20some%20reason,%20the%20strawberries%20sounded%20more%20appealing%20so%20that's%20what%20we%20made.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20definitely%20the%20right%20choice,%20for%20we%20are%20mad%20for%20this%20cake!%20Not%20too%20sweet,%20with%20a%20moist,%20silky%20texture%20and%20crunchy%20sweet%20%22crust%22,%20this%20is%20one%20of%20the%20finest%20cakes%20we've%20ever%20had,%20nevermind%20that%20it's%20the%20only%20one%20we've%20ever%20made%20from%20scratch!%20We%20had%20to%20bring%20some%20to%20the%20neighbors%20for%20fear%20we'd%20eat%20the%20whole%20thing%20in%20one%20night.%20We%20attempted%20to%20create%20a%20basil-oil-infused%20cream%20to%20go%20with%20it,%20but%20it%20flopped.%20No%20worries,%20for%20while%20it%20may%20have%20been%20an%20interesting%20addition,%20it%20was%20completely%20unnecessary.%20This%20cake%20possesses%20all%20the%20characteristics%20we%20think%20a%20dessert%20should%20have,%20including%20how%20yummy%20the%20house%20smelled%20while%20it%20was%20baking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20highly%20recommend%20this%20cake,%20which%20Taryn%20adapted%20from%20a%20recipe%20by%20Martha%20Stewart.%20However,%20we%20did%20take%20advantage%20of%20Taryn's%20excellent%20suggestions,%20and%20so%20here%20is%20the%20recipe%20we%20made,%20as%20per%20Sweetly%20Serendipity.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStrawberry%20Rhubarb%20Upside-Down%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20The%20Topping%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%20Make%20the%20topping%20by%20stirring%20together%20the%20butter,%20flour,%20sugar,%20and%20salt%20until%20moist%20and%20crumbly;%20set%20aside.%20Butter%20a%209-inch%20pie%20dish,%20then%20dot%20it%20with%204%20tablespoons%20(1/2%20stick)%20of%20butter%20cut%20into%20pieces.%20Toss%20rhubarb%20and%20strawberries%20with%203/4%20cup%20sugar;%20let%20stand%20for%202%20minutes.%20Toss%20again,%20and%20spread%20in%20the%20pie%20dish.%20Whisk%20together%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20salt.%20Beat%20remaining%20stick%20of%20butter%20and%20cup%20of%20sugar%20with%20a%20mixer%20on%20medium%20speed%20until%20pale%20and%20fluffy.%20Beat%20in%20Grand%20Marnier,%20then%20beat%20in%20eggs,%20one%20at%20a%20time%20until%20incorporated,%20scraping%20down%20sides%20of%20bowl.%20Stir%20the%20sour%20cream%20and%20buttermilk%20together%20in%20a%20separate%20small%20bowl.%20Beat%20in%20flour%20mixture%20in%20three%20additions,%20alternating%20with%20sour%20cream/buttermilk%20mixture,%20until%20smooth.%20Spread%20evenly%20over%20the%20rhubarb%20and%20strawberries.%20Crumble%20the%20topping%20evenly%20over%20batter.%20Bake%20for%201%20hour,%20until%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%20into%20the%20center%20comes%20out%20clean.%20Let%20cool%20for%2010%20minutes.%20Run%20a%20knife%20around%20edge%20of%20cake,%20and%20invert%20onto%20a%20serving%20plate.%20Let%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
