My wife, Joyce, and I are both retired. She is an excellent cook and an excellent musician. Since there are many excellent cooks where we live, she focuses on music. I encourage her to do so by cooking. I like to follow recipies exactly and she just won't. After I've cooked something a while I like to change it a bit--a dangerous thing to do if your customers are your teen-age grandchildren.
Most of all, I love to cook memories. If Aunt Fanny made a cake that I really liked sixty years ago, I will try to find a recipe. If not, I just start putting things together until I work it out. My family history is made up of cooking and eating. If you were to look at our photo ablums of the last 100 years, you would say,
"Didn't they do anything but eat". Well, how else can you really show love except by cooking?
