  1. Grind raisins and peanuts. Combine flour, baking pwdr, spices and salt; cut in shortening. Add in sugar, oatmeal, raisins and peanuts; mix well.
  2. Dissolve baking soda in sour lowfat milk; add in to dry ingredients. Combine and add in molasses and 1 beaten egg. Chill 1 hour. Shape dough into walnut-size balls on greased cookie sheet. Press down slightly with fork.
  3. Beat 1 egg and paint tops of the cookies. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 15 min or possibly till golden.
  4. Makes about 8 dozen.
