  1. * Basic foundation ingredients; others may be omitted or possibly modified as desired.
  2. 1. Mix the nuts and grains (first 7 items) in a baking pan which is 9 x 13 inches or possibly larger.
  3. 2. Mix and heat in a saucepan the margarine, salt, brown sugar and water. Pour over the grain mix, blending well.
  4. 3. Bake in a 325 preheated oven for about 40 min till golden brown and crisp. Be careful not to burn.
  5. 4. Cold and store in a jar with a tight lid.
  6. NOTES: This is usually eaten with lowfat milk. Powdered lowfat milk may be added to the mix ahead of time to simplify preparation, and a little water added at meal time. Add in 1 1/2 c dry lowfat milk to 5 c. granola.
