- Dice onion and brown in saucepan with oil, butter.
- Mix hamburger, rice, ketchup, onion, salt and pepper.
- Stuff peppers. With remaining meat mix, shape into oblong balls.
- Place in large soup pot.
- Mix can of tomato paste with 2 cans water and pour over peppers.
- Cover pot and simmer over low heat for one hour.
- CABBAGE:
- Cut cord. Boil till slightly hard. Drain. Break leaves and cut stems. Stuff leaves and roll making sure there is sufficient overlap to keep meat covered.
- Cook as above.
