- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1/4 cup cocoa (not dutch processed)
- 1 tbs red food coloring
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted
- Cheesecake topping:
- 8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1 egg
- 2 tbs toasted almonds for topping

%20LOL.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20been%20wanting%20to%20make%20these%20since%20I%20saw%20them%20almost%20non-stop%20around%20Valentine's%20Day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20honestly%20have%20never%20eaten%20red%20velvet%20cake%20and%20had%20no%20idea%20what%20it%20tasted%20like.%20%20I%20had%20to%20ask%20a%20friend!!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway,%20decided%20to%20do%20these%20this%20weekend%20and%20used%20Food%20Network's%20recipe%20as%20a%20guide.%20%20I%20ALWAYS%20change%20things%20and%20wanted%20a%20basic%20type%20of%20recipe%20for%20this%20that%20I%20could%20work%20with.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey're%20pretty%20easy,%20but%20be%20warned,%20no%20matter%20how%20careful%20you%20are,%20your%20hands%20will%20look%20like%20you%20did%20a%20murder%20from%20the%20red%20food%20coloring.%20%20I've%20heard%20there's%20ways%20to%20avoid%20using%20that%20and%20still%20have%20them%20come%20out%20red,%20but%20frankly,%20I%20didn't%20feel%20like%20bothering!!!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway,%20here's%20how%20I%20did%20it,%20and%20enjoy!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Velvet%20Cheesecake%20Brownies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20butter%20over%20low%20heat%20in%20a%20small%20saucepan%20or%20microwave%20on%20high%20for%20about%2030%20seconds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGrease%20or%20spray%20a%208%20x%208-inch%20pan.%20%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20butter%20has%20slightly%20cooled,%20pour%20it%20in%20a%20medium%20bowl.%20%20Add%20the%20sugar,%20and%20using%20a%20wire%20whisk,%20whisk%20the%20sugar%20into%20the%20melted%20butter.%20%20Add%20the%20almond%20extract%20and%20whisk%20well%20to%20combine.%20%20Whisk%20in%20the%20cocoa%20powder.%20%20Add%20the%20food%20coloring%20and%20blend%20well.%20%20Add%20the%20vinegar%20and%20whisk.%20%20Add%20the%20eggs%20one%20at%20a%20time,%20whisking%20well%20after%20each%20addition.%20(Although%20the%20directions%20may%20sound%20wordy,%20you%20must%20do%20EACH%20operation%20separately!!!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFold%20in%20the%20flour%20and%20the%20toasted%20almonds.%20%20Reserve%20about%201/4%20cup%20of%20the%20batter%20and%20spread%20the%20rest%20into%20the%20prepared%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%20an%20electric%20mixer%20in%20a%20small%20bowl,%20beat%20the%20cream%20cheese,%20sugar,%20egg%20and%20almond%20extract,%20blending%20until%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20dollops%20of%20the%20cheesecake%20mixture%20on%20top%20of%20the%20brownie%20batter%20in%20the%20pan.%20%20Distribute%20the%20remaining%201/4%20cup%20of%20the%20red%20batter%20on%20top%20of%20the%20cheesecake%20batter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUsing%20a%20knife,%20swirl%20the%20batters%20so%20marbling%20occurs,%20but%20batters%20do%20NOT%20mix.%20%20Sprinkle%20top%20with%20the%202%20tbs%20toasted%20almonds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20for%2030%20minutes%20at%20350%20degrees.%20%20Remove%20from%20oven%20an%20cool%20completely%20on%20a%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%209%20(9%20brownies)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Velvet%20Almond%20Cheesecake%20Brownies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERed%20Velvet%20Almond%20Cheesecake%20Brownies%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
