Receta Shaved Ice/Snow Cones w/o machine
I thought of putting this recipe up, but it seemed dumb. Then ran across woman who was having such a horrible time with hot flashes that she couldn't help but talk about it. I'd craved shaved ice a while back due to a medical condition and realized it lowered my body temperature to where I felt comfortable, especially on hot muggy days. So, this could help others too. I was making frozen watermelon and regular margaritas and freezing them to almost solid and scraping them with a spoon and eating them that way. It was so refreshing that it was easy to get addicted, so I just made limeade ones.
Note:
The Pina Colada flavor is becoming a favorite. Use 1/2 amount of pineapple (canned, fresh, or juice to 1/2 amount of coconut milk. I find that using fruit makes it more like drier ice. I use flavored waters to water them down to enhance the flavor rather than using plain water. Also, using a complementary liquor like coconut flavored rum for Pina Colada. Be careful not to over fill the blender. Carbonated waters fizz up and will overflow, but give it a frothy consistency, almost pop rock like.
Ingredientes
- 1 quart bottled, frozen 12 ounce canned juice, or blended fresh fruit (to taste) (I'll use watermelon here)
- 1/4 Cup lemon or lime juice or both blended
- 1/8 Cup artificial or regular sugar (to taste, if using frozen or bottled juice, may already be sweet enough)
- 1/8 Cup light corn syrup (to taste) (corn syrup prevents mixture from becoming hard. Used in making pop sickles and if using frozen canned juice sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, may not need to use more)
- 1 Cup to 3 Cups water (to taste)
- 1/4 Cup booze (to taste according to what goes with well with fruit flavor. I used Triple Sec here) (optional, but gives better consistency w/corn syrup as alcohol doesn't freeze so mixture won't become solid)
Direcciones
- I will use watermelon, but you can use any fruit suited to make snow cones, e.g., pineapple with coconut milk for pina colada, raspberry and lemon, strawberry, mango (triple sec and tequila make it a Mango Margarita, etc. Experiment on consistency and flavor. The more liquid, the icier it is. Using fruit makes it drier like dry snow.
- If using watermelon, dice it into small cubes to make 1 quart or 4 Cups. Smaller pieces are easier to blend.
- Freeze. Freezing is important for texture as it will not be as smooth otherwise, but fibrous. It works best to freeze fruit then take out of freezer and let set in refrigerator just long enough until fruit breaks apart easily. Otherwise you may have to chip away to break it apart once frozen.
- Pour into blender.
- Add lime/lemon juice, sugar, corn syrup, (Triple Sec/booze), and blend in blender. I found that using canned limeade makes the consistency better and it already has Light Corn Syrup in it.
- Pour into quart sized containers with lids. Use smaller containers for single portions. Makes about 2 quarts or 8 cups.
- Freeze until solid. This may take a full 24 hours to get proper consistency. While freezing, need to stir occasionally to keep alcohol from separating to the bottom.
- Spoon from container and eat. May need to scrape with firm spoon, but it is consistency of really fine snow, depending upon the amount of liquid and alcohol that is used.
