  • 1/4 c. Dal, (green moong or possibly yellow moong or possibly black eye peas dal) soaked overnight
  • 1/2 c. Finely minced onions
  • 1/2 tsp Grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seed pwdr
  • 3 tsp Ghee or possibly oil
  •     Few grains of aniseed crushed
  • 1 Tbsp. Gram flour
  • 4 x Chappatis made ahead
  •     Semi roast rotis Keep aside

  1. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. of salt on onions.
  2. Keep for 5 mins. Squeeze out water.
  3. Wash the soaked dal well.
  4. Don't throw away skin if using green dal. Strain and add in back. Its very nutritions. Drain dal well.
  5. Grind in a wet grinder until fine.
  6. Add in as little water as possible or possibly the roti will become difficult to handle.
  7. Add in all ingredients except the rotis and beat well with hand to lighten.
  8. Place and pat a square of the dal mix on the roti. Fold the empty coners of the roti on the dal square.
  9. Place on a greased hot griddle dal side down.
  10. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. oil.
  11. Cook on low until it becomes light golden.
  12. Flip cook other side.
  13. Roast similarly. Cold cut in quarters. Pack.
  14. Serves: 4 chappatis (12 squares)
  15. Making time: 20 mins. (excl. soaking and grinding)
