A munchy spice cookie with loads of nuts. Mixed candied fruit adds the “jewel tones,” moisture and softness. These perky and tasty nuggets won’t last long on the cookie platter.

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Beat together butter, sugar, molasses and egg in large mixing bowl.
  3. Measure flour by sifting (lazy me, I just stirred it well to aerate it then measured and leveled it.)
  4. In medium mixing bowl measure the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice. Stir well.
  5. Blend flour mixture into butter and sugar mixture.
  6. Stir in candied fruit and nuts using a large wooden spoon (mixture will be thick.)
  7. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls about 1 inch apart on lightly sprayed baking sheets.
  8. Bake 12-15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool in pan 5 minutes before removing cookies to wire rack. Store in airtight container.

Thanks for taking time to comment, and yes they are quite an interesting variation. This exact recipe is not easily found today on the internet, though several others going by the name are. If memory serves me correctly, this recipe was from a Betty Crocker Cookie Cookbook long ago, but I can't prove that. Hope you'll give these a try and let me know what you think.

These sound just yummy! I can't wait to try them. They should be lovely to look at as well as delicious, and a nice bite-size variation on the traditional fruitcake. from inowotsgud
