  1. This recipe originally from Sri Lanka makes a wonderful accompaniment to almost any curry. It should be served chilled that makes a nice contrast to the warm curry. It is meant to be quite spicy and a little of it goes a long way but you can cut down on the chilli pwdr if you want it a bit more tame.
  2. First peel the onion then grate it quite finely into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add in the grated coconut and combine it well with the onion.
  4. Now add in the rest of the ingredients and blend them in thoroughly if you possess a liquidiser or possibly food processor which will do the job beautifully.
  5. Cover the bowl with foil or possibly clingfilm then refrigeratethe sambal in the refrigerator till ready to serve.
  6. Transfer to a serving bowl so which everyone can help themselves.
  7. Serves 6 8 as an accompaniment
