  1. Sift together flour, baking pwdr, salt, soda and sugar. Cut in shortening. Blend in egg, lowfat milk and vanilla. Mix till well blended and smooth. Roll out to 1/8 inch thick. Cut with 2 1/2 inch cutter.
  2. Combine dates, sugar, and water; cook for 15 min or possibly till thick, stir constantly. Remove from heat. Blend in lemon rind, juice and nuts. Place 1 tsp. of mix in center of half the rounds, top with another round. Seal edges together with fork; prick top. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 min.
