I love making pies and since I have fruit trees in the yard, I make lots of them. Of course my husbands favorite is lemon, but apple and peach are a close second. I think a lot of frozen crusts from the store work, but for me, I love the flaky crust this recipe makes

  1. In a large bowl, place flour, salt and shortening,
  2. Use either your hands, 2 forks or a dough blender to cut the shortening and flour into small pea sized pieces,
  3. Add ice cold water a tablespoon at a time, using your hands to blend it in, as soon as the dough comes together, stop
  4. Form this into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes or more
  5. Take out of the refrigerator and place on a floured surface, roll dough turning it as you go
  6. Place into a 9 inch pie dish and cut off excess dough, crimp the edges with your fingers or a fork
  7. Place in a 35 oven for 20 minute or until golden
  8. The leftover dough can be rolled out, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and enjoyed
