  • 1 slc white bread
  • 1 tsp butter or possibly margarine softened
  • 1 lrg egg separated Salt to taste Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste

  1. Place bread on an ungreased baking sheet. Spread butter on 1 side of bread slice.
  2. Beat egg white at high speed of an electric mixer till stiff peaks form.
  3. Spoon beaten egg white onto prepared bread slice. Make a well in center of beaten egg white with back of a spoon. Place egg yolk in the well.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 min or possibly till meringue is golden brown and egg yolk is set. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
  5. This recipe yields 1 serving.
  6. Comments: To serve more than one, multiply the ingredients by the number of people. If you prefer a very hard egg yolk, bake up to 2 min longer.
