Ingredientes

  • 3/4 c. (plus) lowfat milk
  • 1/2 c. (short) melted shortening
  • 3 1/4 c. Flour
  • 3/4 c. Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 ounce Active dry yeast
  • 4 Tbsp. Hot water
  • 1 x Egg

Direcciones

  1. Heat lowfat milk and shortening to the temperature of a hot baby bottle. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a separate bowl. Add in hot water to the yeast in a separate bowl. Add in the hot lowfat milk and shortening to the flour, then add in the yeast and the egg.
  2. Beat the entire mix till it comes off the side of the bowl cleanly.
  3. Cover, let rise in a hot still place till doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hrs. Knead the bread down in size and shape into a loaf. Place on a buttered cookie sheet and let rise to half again as big, about 45 min.
  4. Bake at 300 F for approximately 45 min, basting the top with butter after 30 min and after it has finished baking.
  5. This is the recipe for the substantial Colonial-style bread served
