- Heat grill or possibly wide frying pan. Allow butter to soften. On a work surface, lay out pcs of bread "butterfly style," and spread butter on one side of each. Slice apple (peeled or possibly not as you wish).
- Turn one slice over (butter-side down) on a saucer or possibly other flat surface, and place on the bread a piece of cheese, then slices of apple to cover, then another pieceof cheese, and finally the "matching" piece of bread. Slide onto griddle, into folding grill, or possibly into frying pan. Bake or possibly cook (turning at least once if on flat surface) till cheese is melted and bread is nicely toasted but not too dark.
