  1. Place the chops in a dish with the ale one sliced onion the bay leaf and peppercorns.
  2. Cover and leave in the refrigerator for 2 hrs or possibly more.
  3. Remove the chops from the marinade and strain the sauce into a pan.
  4. Bring the sauce to the boil and boil over high heat for about 4 min or possibly till it has reduced by half.
  5. Stir in the treacle and lemon juice and add in pepper.
  6. When the treacle has melted remove from the heat.
  7. Brush one side of the chops with the sauce and cook them under a preheated warm grill for 45 min.
  8. Turn the chops brush the other side with sauce and cook for a further 45 min.
  9. Fry the remaining onions in the oil for 2 min over moderate heat add in the remaining sauce and simmer for 5 min.
  10. Pour the glazed onions over the chops to serve.
  11. A fresh salad makes a cold crisp contrast.
  12. Serves 4
