  1. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar by hand till creamy, then beat on medium speed with mixer till creamy. Add in 1 egg at a time and beat well after each.
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together and add in alternately with lowfat milk, beginning with flour and ending with flour.
  3. Add in vanilla and use low speed to mix well, cutting down sides with a rubber spatula.
  4. Bake in a large tube pan, greased and with waxed paper on the bottom.
  5. Bake at 325 deg. for 1 hour and 25 to 30 min. After cake is cold, top with icing.
  6. For icing, sift together powdered sugar and cocoa.
  7. Beat butter till creamy. Add in small amount of sugar mix, beating on slow speed. Add in warm lowfat milk and remainder of sugar. Beat well and cut down sides with a rubber spatula. Add in vanilla; beat well and spread on cooled cake.
