.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20been%20thinking%20about%20gingerbread%20lately.%20It%20was%20something%20my%20mother%20made%20often%20and%20I%E2%80%99ve%20always%20loved%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20gingerbread%20for%20a%20dinner%20party?!?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhy%20not?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETart%20it%20up%20a%20bit,%20finish%20it%20with%20Lemon%20Cream%20Cheese%20Frosting,%20serve%20it%20with%20ice%20cream%20and%20what%E2%80%99s%20not%20to%20love?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20loved%20it%E2%80%A6..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20cake%20is%20from%20a%20recipe%20on%20The%20Yellow%20Table.%20The%20recipe%20calls%20for%20a%20simple%20finish%20of%20powdered%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20rather%20fond%20of%20cream%20cheese%20frosting%E2%80%A6.%20And%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20make%20cakes%20that%20often%20%E2%80%93%20I%20can%20indulge%20when%20I%20do!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOld-Fashioned%20Gingerbread%20Cake,%20Lemon%20Cream%20Cheese%20Frosting%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETotal%20time:%2075%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EButter%20and%20flour%20a%2010%E2%80%B3%20(25cm)%20tube%20pan%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350F%20(175C)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20molasses%20with%20hot%20water%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECream%20butter%20and%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20egg%20and%20beat%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20molasses%20/%20water%20mix%20to%20bowl,%20beating%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20dry%20ingredients%20and%20add,%20beating%20on%20low%20speed%20just%20until%20combined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20into%20prepared%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake,%2050%20minutes,%20or%20until%20toothpick%20inserted%20into%20cake%20comes%20out%20clean.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20and%20cool%20for%2010%20minutes%20then%20remove%20from%20pan%20and%20allow%20to%20cool%20completely%20on%20a%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrosting:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoften%20cream%20cheese%20if%20needed%20(mine%20was%20soft)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20all%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20cake%20is%20cool%20%E2%80%93%20frost%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESlice%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20above%20photo%20is%20actually%20enough%20for%202%20servings,%20but%20I%20wanted%20it%20to%20show%20up%20on%20the%20plate.%20I%20cut%20it%20in%20half.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20know%20how,%20sometimes,%20when%20you%20invite%20people%20to%20dinner,%20they%20bring%20a%20bottle%20of%20wine?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOr%20flowers?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOr%20chocolates?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20guests%20brought%20me%202%20dead%20birds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDead%20doves,%20actually%20(but%20not%20turtle%20doves%20or%20a%20partridge%20in%20a%20pear%20tree).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20were%20freshly%20killed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVery%20freshly%20killed%E2%80%A6.%20Apparently%20our%20guests%20ran%20into%20some%20hunters%20on%20the%20way%20over%20and%20were%20given%20some%20birds.%20They,%20in%20turn%20wanted%20to%20give%20me%202%20of%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20declined.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20mean,%20it%20was%20a%20lovely%20gesture%20and%20I%20did%20appreciate%20the%20thought%20and%20I%20always%20love%20gifts%20of%20food%20%E2%80%93%20but%20I%20have%20never%20prepared%20an%20animal%20of%20any%20sort%20that%20was%20that%20newly%20deceased.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20in%20plucking,%20gutting,%20head%20and%20feet%20removal,%20etc.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20even%20fish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20won%E2%80%99t%20even%20buy%20cleaned%20chicken%20if%20the%20feet%20are%20still%20attached.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20a%20bit%20squeamish%E2%80%A6..%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway%20I%20thanked%20them%20profusely%20and%20they%20took%20the%20birds%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20next%20morning%20they%20brought%20them%20back.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20time%20they%20were%20perfectly%20cleaned%20and%20shrink-wrapped%E2%80%A6..%20Ready%20for%20the%20oven%20or%20the%20freezer.%20(Now,%20that%E2%80%99s%20what%20I%20call%20friendship!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20went%20in%20the%20freezer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyone%20have%20a%20good%20dove%20recipe?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Actually,%20there%20are%20lots%20on%20the%20net%20and%20we%20look%20forward%20to%20having%20a%20lovely%20dove%20dinner%20soon.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20to%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20menu%20%E2%80%93%20next%20post.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
