,%20Amy%20just%20looks%20forward%20to%20eating%20pie.%20And%20being%20French%20Canadian,%20she's%20always%20wanted%20to%20try%20Tourtiere,%20especially%20after%20seeing%20this%20recipe%20in%20Saveur.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20made%20a%20couple%20of%20adjustments%20to%20the%20Saveur%20recipe.%20For%20instance,%20since%20it%20was%20a%20weeknight,%20we%20used%20store-bought%20pie%20dough.%20We%20also%20tried%20a%20mix%20of%20ground%20meat%20-%202%20parts%20pork%20to%201%20part%20beef.%20We%20forgot%20to%20buy%20apple%20cider,%20so%20we%20put%201/4%20cup%20of%20apple%20cider%20vinegar%20into%20the%20cooking%20meat%20instead.%20And%20what%20we%20ended%20up%20with%20was%20a%20very%20interesting%20dish%20with%20lots%20of%20layers.%20It%20was%20definitely%20hearty,%20with%20all%20that%20meat%20and%20potatoes,%20but%20it%20also%20had%20beautifully%20warm%20spice%20flavors%20such%20as%20cinnamon,%20nutmeg%20and%20ginger.%20And%20the%20aroma%20of%20this%20meat%20pie%20cooking?%20Just%20right%20for%20a%20cold,%20damp%20Monday%20afternoon.%20No%20wonder%20they%20eat%20this%20in%20Canada!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETourtiere%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20refrigerated%20pie%20crust,%20defrosted%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELay%20the%20bottom%20pie%20crust%20in%20a%209-inch%20pie%20plate%20and%20set%20aside.%20Bring%20a%20large%20pot%20of%20water%20to%20boil,%20add%20salt,%20and%20boil%20the%20diced%20potatoes%20until%20they%20are%20tender.%20Mash%20and%20set%20aside.%20Heat%20the%20oil%20in%20a%20large%20skillet.%20Add%20the%20pork%20and%20beef%20and%20cook%20until%20no%20longer%20pink.%20Add%20the%20garlic,%20onion,%20and%20carrot,%20and%20cook,%20stirring%20often,%20until%20meat%20is%20nicely%20browned%20and%20vegetables%20are%20soft,%20about%2010%20minutes.%20Stir%20in%20cider%20vinegar,%20celery%20seed,%20cloves,%20ginger,%20cinnamon,%20nutmeg%20and%20bay%20leaves.%20Continue%20to%20cook%20and%20stir%20until%20liquid%20is%20evaporated.%20Stir%20in%20mashed%20potatoes,%20season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20allow%20mixture%20to%20cool%20completely.%20Preheat%20oven%20to%20400F.%20Place%20the%20filling%20into%20the%20pie%20plate,%20smooth%20the%20top%20and%20cover%20with%20the%20top%20crust.%20Fold%20the%20crust%20under%20itself%20and%20crimp%20together%20with%20your%20fingers.%20Brush%20with%20the%20beaten%20egg%20and%20place%20in%20the%20oven.%20Bake%20for%2050-55%20minutes,%20until%20hot%20and%20golden%20brown.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
