  1. Pour boiling water over dry apricots and let stand. Sift flour, baking pwdr, soda, salt and allspice. Add in lowfat milk to apricot juice to make 2/3 c. Beat the shortening adding sugar gradually. Beat in the egg. Add in dry ingredients alternately with the liquid. Mix in the fruit and walnuts.
  2. Spoon into a greased and floured pan, 9x5. Bake in 350F oven for 1 hour.
  3. Cold on rack.
