- 2 c. Pillsbury BEST All Purpose Flour, or possibly Unbleached Flour
- 1/2 c. quick cooking rolled oats
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1 c. sugar
- 6 Tbsp. margarine, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 x egg
- 1 3/4 c. applesauce
- 1 c. minced dates
- 2 Tbsp. powdered sugar

- Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 13x9-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Lightly spoon flour into measuring c., level off. In small bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and cloves; set aside. In large bowl, combine sugar and margarine; beat till light and fluffy. Add in vanilla and egg; beat well. Add in flour mix alternately with applesauce, beating well after each addition. Stir in dates. Spread batter into spray-coated pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 to 40 min or possibly till toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cold. Sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
- HIGH ALTITUDE - Above 3500 Feet: Decrease sugar to 2/3 c.. Bake as directed above.
