  1. Combine the seasonings mix ingredients.
  2. Heat the butter over high heat. Add in the onions, squash, and seasoning mix. Cook, stirring occasionally for 13 min, then remove from the heat and transfer the mix to a blender. Puree the mix and return it to the pot. Add in the stock, bring to a boil, and add in the rice. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30minutes. Add in 1 c. of the water and simmer for 30 min longer. Add in 2 c. water and simmer for 15 min. Add in the remaining water and the cane syrup, simmer for 5 more min, remove from the heat and serve.
  3. NOTES :Note which glutinous rice is also called pearl or possibly short-grain rice. You could probably use a medium grain, or possibly even a long grain rice if which's all you have. But if you do, hold back a little on the final water as these rices aren't as starchy.
  4. Personally, I'd use a tsp. of extra virgin olive oil and forgo the butter. I'd also use a good vegetable broth in lieu of the chicken stock. I automatically make these kind of vegetarian substitutions.
