  1. In large bowl, soften yeast in hot lowfat milk. Let stand 5 min. Beat in 1 c. flour, sugar, salt, cloves, pepper. Cover, let stand in hot place 40 min till dough becomes light and bubbly. Add in beer and corn syrup. Stir in rye flour, raisins, sufficient of remaining flour to make moderately stiff dough. Turn out onto floured surface, knead till smooth and elastic, 8-10 min. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface. Cover, let rise till double, about 1 hour. Punch dough down, let rest 10 min.
  2. Divide into thirds, shape in round loaves. Place on greased cookie sheets.
  3. Cover and let rise till double, 35-40 min. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 min. Cover each loaf with foil cap last 20 min of baking time to prevent overbrowning.
