• 1 lg. onion, sliced thinly
• 1/2 c. butter
• 1 lg. can whole tomatoes
• 1 1/2 quart. water
• 1/2 c. barley
• 3 beef bouillon cubes
• 1 meaty soup bone
• Optional 1 pkg. soup meat or possibly stew meat
