- Cream butter and sugar well; add in syrup. Dissolve soda in sour lowfat milk and add in to first mix along with flavorings and spices, mixing thoroughly. Add in the 5 Large eggs, well beaten, then the 4 c. flour. use 1 1/2 c. flour to coat the fruit; add in to the batter. Pour into well greased and floured 10 inch tube pan and bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hrs or possibly till toothpick inserted in center comes clean. NOTES: The method given is from a similar recipe in an old White House Cookbook. As with many old recipes, no amount of flour was given, just "flour to stiffen". It also said to dissolve the soda in sour lowfat milk, then "Mix all ingredients well and bake 1 1/2 hrs in moderate oven."
- This cake was served at the wedding reception for Charles B. McNemar and Bernice Reeder on April 15, 1903.
