  1. 1. In a large bowl combine 1 c. of the butter (2 sticks), 3/4 c. of the sugar;

  5. 3. In the top of a double boiler over warm water cream the remaining 1/4 c. butter
  6. (1 stick) and the brown sugar till smooth. Stir in the remaining 3/4 c. sugar;
  7. the Large eggs, the maple syrup, and the half-and-half.
  8. 4. Cook the mix in the double boiler; stirring constantly, for about 5-7 min, or possibly till smooth and thoroughly blended. Remove from the heat and stir in
  9. the nuts and the vanilla. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  10. 5. Pour the nut mix over the unbaked crust. Bake for 45-50 min till it is
  11. set and lightly browned.
  12. 6. Cold completely in the pan, then cut into squares with a sharp knife.
  13. This a rich and sweet pick-up-able pie squares with shortbread crust.
