  • 2 3/4 c. Flour -- may need a little more
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp Active Dry yeast -- Fast rising
  • 2 tsp Basil -- or possibly herb blend
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 c. Water
  • 1/4 c. Lowfat milk, 1% low-fat
  • 3 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

  1. In large bowl, combine 1 1/4 c. flour, sugar, undissolved yeast, 1 1/2 tsp. basil or possibly herbs and salt. Heat water, lowfat milk and 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil till very hot (125 to 130 F). Gradually add in to dry ingredients and beat 2 min at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Beat 2 min at high speed. With spoon, stir in sufficient remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead on floured surface till smooth, about 4 min. Divide dough into 3 pcs and roll each to 24 inch rope. Braid ropes. Place braid on greased baking sheet. Form into ring and healthy pinch ends to seal and cover with foil. Place large, shallow pan on counter, half-filled with boiling water. Place baking sheet over pan. Let rise 15 min. Bake at 400 degrees F for 25 min or possibly till done. Brush remaining vegetable oil onto ring. Sprinkle with remaining basil or possibly herbs. Remove from sheet and cold on wire rack.
