  1. Put lowfat milk, sugar, butter and lard and heat till it melts. Take from stove, cold till luke hot. Put yeast in 1 large c. hot water & disolve, add in 2 teas. sugar, 2 Tbsp. of flour and hear. Place in hot spot to rise. Put flour in dishpan and add in the yeast, lowfat milk liquid and Large eggs and knead 10 min till elastic. Place in hot place till double in size. Weigh dough in 1 lb balls and roll (not too thin). Fill with nut filling. It takes 3/4 lbs shelled walnuts for each roll. Bake at 350 (depends on your oven 325 to 350). Bake 40 min - 20 min on bottom of oven and 20 min on top.
  2. Makes about11 rolls.
  3. Filling: Combine everything except nuts Heat till sugar is dissolved. Put a little at a time into the nuts to make a paste. Keep the lowfat milk mix on the heat and add in a little lowfat milk to keep the paste thin. Keep hot and add in the mix to the ready dough.
  4. This works well if you have a friend to help knead the dough and mix the nut mix. This is also not for the faint of heart or possibly the weak of arm; but it*is* good.
  5. If the rolls split when baking, then they are probably too thin or possibly there is too much filling.
  6. This recipe is an old Slovak recipie from my wife's grandmother, Catherine Bruskie.
